Learn how to properly use the spatula with your Mixing Bowl to safely and efficiently scrape down ingredients, remove dough, and stir during Open Cooking mode. This guide covers spatula techniques for food removal, safe handling around mixing blades, and best practices for cleaning out heavy mixtures. Follow these step-by-step instructions to protect your appliance and get the most out of your cooking and baking results.
How to scrape down food inside the Mixing Bowl:
Scrape the inside of the Mixing Bowl almost vertically from top to bottom with the tip of the spatula. Don't scrape sideways at the same time you push food down, to avoid the blades.
How to scrape food out of the Mixing Bowl:
- First, pour out the contents without the spatula (so that the weight of the Mixing Bowl is lighter than the full contents).
- Then place the Mixing Bowl on the work surface and scrape down any remaining food.
- Finally, hold the Mixing Bowl with the remaining food, insert the spatula between the blades of the Mixing Knife and scrape out the remaining food by turning the spatula clockwise (always push the Mixing Knife against the blunt side of the blades).
How to scrape out heavy dough:
- Separate the dough from the inside of the Mixing Bowl by inserting the spatula vertically around the dough.
- Then turn the Mixing Bowl upside down onto the work surface (floured or greased as specified in the recipe) and twist the shaft of the Mixing Knife with the spatula dough releaser (end of the handle). The dough will fall on the work surface.
- Scrape leftovers in the Mixing Bowl after removing the Mixing Knife. If you want to remove the small part of dough stuck under the Mixing Knife blades, do it very carefully with your hands once it is removed from Mixing Bowl (hold Mixing Knife by the shaft with one hand and pull out the dough with the other hand fingers).
How to stir during cooking (Open Cooking mode):
Slowly insert the spatula. As you can't normally see the blades of the mixing knife, if you encounter a very hard obstacle, change the insertion point and gently stir ¼ of a full turn. Repeat this several times rather than stirring continuously for a full turn. Always stir in a clockwise direction.
